SASW Slovak Genealogy Group Meeting – March 31st

Are you interested in finding out more about your ancestors who came from the area of Slovakia, Czechoslovakia or Austria-Hungary?

Are you wondering if you can trace your family back in time through the Slovak archives, even if you don’t read the language?

Would you like to know more about how to find family who may be still living in Slovakia?

Join the SASW’s Slovak Genealogy group of like-minded members as we share what we know and what we want to know about Slovak Genealogy.  This informal group will meet once a month to talk about Slovak ancestors we are seeking and help each other to go back in time and find out what life was like in the Old Country. Genealogists of all levels with Slovak ancestors are invited.

Our first meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 31st at 7 p.m. in the Conference room at the Thomas Jefferson Library, 7415 Arlington Blvd., Falls Church, VA.

  1. Darleen Hritz Kipp says:

I went to a Slovak school and church. They taught Slovakbut I don’t remember any of it.
My father was born in Albee, Iowa in 1904. His parents I believe came through Ellis Island. My grandparents spoke no English. My father said they were from Austria-Hungary and he believes the original name was Hric which got changed to Hritz at some point. They were farmers.
I have been trying to find the prayers for the Rosary in Slovak. Can you help me with this request?
    Respectfully and God bless.
