In partnership with the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Washington, D.C., and Friends of Slovakia, we invite you to attend the third event in the Slovakia@30 series – a conversation on “30 Years of the Slovak Economy” with Ivan Mikloš, President of MESA 10 and former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of the Slovak Republic.

Join us for this exclusive conversation on myths and facts about the Slovak economy, and learn whether the first years of transformation and reforms after the fall of communism in Central Europe were a fit for Slovakia, were too radical, or brought about painful belt-tightening. Why, over the last 10 years, has Slovakia worked its way up, in economic terms, in a field of 11 comparable countries, going from tenth place to third? And what does the future hold for the country, given the war on its borders and global economic trends, including the new U.S. economic paradigm?

Ivan Mikloš is one of the leading figures of economic transformation in the Slovak Republic. He contributed significantly to the Slovak Republic’s entry into the OECD, NATO, and the EU, and instigated extensive and effective tax reforms. He also set the government agenda on economic restructuring and fiscal consolidation. During 2016-20, he chaired the Strategic Advisory Group for Support of Ukrainian Reforms (SAGSUR). Mikloš is also a co-founder of the Ukrainian economic think tank Centre for Economic Strategy.

Slovakia@30 is a collaboration between FOS and SASW, consisting of four talks to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Slovak independence in 2023.
