Dr. Scalsky will discuss current research on Slovak ancestral genetics, with a focus on methods and pertinent findings. Hear him talk about the evidence of the distinct origins and intermingling of ethnic populations within Slovakia and how these may have changed over time.
Ryan Scalsky is a University of Maryland, Baltimore-trained population and evolutionary genomicist and a molecular epidemiologist. He has worked on the evolution of both human and parasite populations in relation to malaria vaccine development, and on assessing human genetic protection against infectious diseases. He is currently finishing his medical training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
